On Tour!
by Laura EllisSo you fancy a change of environment. Where to go? An obvious choice, Madrid! The Spanish capital is only two and half hours away from Salamanca, and about 25 euros, away making it ideal for a quick break to experience the hustle and bustle of Spanish city life!
For me, this weekend will be my second visit since arriving in Salamanca, with an obligatory visit from the parents; quite the contrary to the hectic girls weekend of two weeks ago, but possibly a more chilled out attempt to really experience the city.
First on my tour undoubtedly, the Plaza Mayor. After seeing the splendour of Salamanca's own (especially on the night of the World Cup final) I can't imagine how it could be matched. From what I've seen previously with the aid of a quick internet browse, although the basic principles are the same (a square in the centre of the city) its appearance and attributes are very different. Thus making it a necessity on my discovery of Spain/Madrid list.
Next, the Palacio de Oriente or Palacio Real, otherwise known as the official royal residence. Created on the foundations of a Moorish Fortress and designed by Italian architects, making it a real mix! Personally I'm aching to see the gardens, and the magnificent view that they are supposed to boast..
Finally on my to do list, the Prado museum. After discovering several originals of the paintings I studied at school are located here, this has become paramount, possibly overtaking the importance of the other two! Not only however is the artwork stunning, the architecture unique, but with the aid of my student card, completely free for me!
Any suggestions of other places to go, let me know! Personally I can't wait!
