Walking in Tenerife

by Juan

The good God was spitting fire for nine days and the streams of lava were getting closer to town…

It is truly miraculous that the people of the town, with all their faith, after seeing the Chinyero volcano erupting and pouring out lava, went and got Jesus and the Virgin Mary, and took them to the volcano. However the heat was so stifling due to the fire that the people returned the Virgin to the church. But a group of strong men continued with Christ and took him up to the ashes and said " We have legs and we can return but you… put out the fire or you will burn in it." Instantly and inexplicably, the impossible occurred: the lava with all its force collapsed in front of everything in its path and stopped flowing.

I send you the photos of the lava (that here is called "malpaís" but in volcanology it´s is known as "haha" from the Hawaiian language because of the pain from walking on it) from the place where the lava stopped and other kinds of environment typical of volcanic areas and also of Christ’s cross which fortunately remained intact with both legs.
