Studying in Sevilla - Studeren in Sevilla

Van vorig jaar september tot februari ben ik op uitwisseling geweest naar Sevilla. Ik doe de Hogere Europese Beroepen Opleiding en in Sevilla volgde ik communicatie vakken aan de Facultad de Comunicación. Ik had van te voren hele leuke dingen over deze stad gehoord en daarom had ik er voor gekozen om er naar toe te gaan. De verhalen waren waar, Sevilla is geweldig! Het is typisch Spaans met alle kleine straatjes, barretjes en flamenco! Je hoeft je in deze stad geen moment te vervelen, er is altijd wat te doen.

Er zijn veel restaurants om uit te kiezen, maar wil je echt spaans eten dan kan je altijd terecht bij een van de ontelbare tapasbarren. Een bekende is bar Levíes, in calle Levíes. Je vindt hier wel veel buitenlandse studenten, dus wil je je mengen met de Spanjaarden…dan kan je beter iets anders uitkiezen. De alleroudste tapas bar van Sevilla is el Rincóncillo en komt uit 1670. Deze bar ligt in de wijk Santa Catalina en de straat is c/Gerona (waar ik heb gewoond!!).

Er is ook heel veel te zien in Sevilla, zoals de Kathedraal en de Giralda. Van maandag tot zondag kan je naar binnen, zondag's is het van 14:30 tot 18:00 gratis, andere dagen betaal je 6 euro. De Giralda is de toren naast de kathedraal en kan je beklimmen, het geeft je een uitzicht over de hele stad. Real Alcazar is een koninklijk paleis waar de koning en koningin nog steeds af en toe verblijven. De bouw van dit indrukwekkende paleis begon in de 10e eeuw. Het is de hele week geopend en entree is 5 euro. Torre del Oro ligt aan de rivier Guadalquivir en is gebouwd in de 13e eeuw. Vroeger diende het als een uitkijkpost over de rivier, maar tegenwoordig is het het Maritiem museum en entree is 1 euro.

Een leuk barretje is Cabo Loco (Alfalfa - c/Pérez Galdós). Het is heel klein, daarom haalt iedereen daar zijn drankje maar drinkt het op straat op. Cocktails zijn maar 3 euro! Zolang het'savonds nog warm is, is het leuk om naar El Capote te gaan, een open lucht bar aan de rivier. Zelf ben ik er nooit geweest maar La Carbonaria (centrum - c/Leves 18) schijnt heel leuk (maar toeristisch) te zijn. Er worden gratis flamenco optredens gegeven. Een paar leuke discotheken zijn Catedral (Alfalfa - c/Cuesta del Rosario) en Boss (Triana - c/Betis).

Als je van tapas, cultuur en gezelligheid houdt, is Sevilla de stad om te bezoeken! De beste tijd om te gaan is in het najaar en het voorjaar…want in de zomer kan het wel 50 graden worden!!!!

From September till February I went on exchange to Sevilla. I am studying "European Studies" and I took comunication courses at the Faculty of Comunication in Sevilla. In advance I had heard really nice things about this city and that's why I decided to go. The stories were true, Sevilla is amazing! It is a typically Spanish city, little streets, bars and flamenco! You will never get bored in this city, there's always something to do.

There are lots of restaurants to choose from, but if you want to eat real Spanish food, you can always go to one of the many tapas bars. A well known bar is Levíes, in calle Levíes. There are lots of foreign students here though, so if you want to mix with the Spaniards…you'd better choose another place to go. The oldest tapas bar in Sevilla is el Rincóncillo and dates back to 1670. This bar is situated in Santa Catalina and the street is c/Gerona (where i've lived!!).

There is a lot to see in Sevilla, like the cathedral and the Giralda. From Monday till Sunday you can go in, on Sundays it's free to get in from 14:30 till 18:00, on other days you have to pay 6 euros. The Giralda is the tower next to the cathedral and from the top of this tower you'll have a good view of the city. Real Alcazar is a royal palace where the king and queen of Spain still stay every now and then. The construction of this impressive palace started in the 10th century. It is opened all week and it is 5 euros to get in. Torre del Oro is located on the Guadalquivir river and it dates back to the 13th century. It used to serve as an observation point, but nowadays it's the Maritime museum and it's only 1 euro to get in.

A nice bar is Cabo Loco (Alfalfa - c/Pérez Galdós). It is very small, that is why everyone gets their drinks there, but drink it in the street. Cocktails are only 3 euros! As long as the temperature is still nice in the evening, it's nice to go to El Capote, a bar outside, alongside the river. I have never been here myself, but La Carbonaria (centre - c/Leves 18) is supposed to be very nice (but touristic). There are free flamenco shows. Nice clubs are Catedral (Alfalfa - c/Cuesta del Roario) and Boss (Triana - c/Betis).

If you like tapas, culture and fun, Sevilla is the place to be! The best time to go is in the fall or springtime…because it can be 50 degrees in the summer!!!!
