Thief walks in, steals Picasso sketch, and walks out

by Kimberly

A man just walked into the Weinstein Gallery in San Francisco on July 5th, took a£100,000 (Approx $160,000) Picasso drawing off the wall, tucked it under his arm, and walked out.  He fled the scene in a taxi.

The pencil sketch by Picasso is said to have been drawn by the Spanish artist in 1965. The image is said to be original and unique and is titled “Tete de Femme”.

The gallery´s surveillance video shows the casual robber and he strolled out with the framed drawing under his arm. The video and images of the drawing are being made widely public as the gallery hopes to deter anyone from purchasing or selling the piece.

This adds to a rash of Picasso thefts over the last couple of years. In Paris last year 5 Picasso paintings were also stolen along with others from the Museum of Modern Art.
