Primavera Sound Barcelona

by Lindsay Cook

Last week thousands of Indie music fans headed to Barcelona for the Primavera sound festival which takes place every year either in late May or early June.

One of the biggest headliners was the band Pulp who played together for the first time in nine years. There were also performances by The Flaming Lips, Sufjan Stevens, The National, Battles and Girl Talk as well as many other bands.

The festival is famous for promoting independent artists. It is held near the beach in the Parc del Forum and has happened annually since it began in 2001. The festival is now sponsored by San Miguel beer though it was previously sponsored by Spanish beer Estrella Damm.

The festival draws big crowds every year and it is easy to see why. Not only is there a great line up but Barcelona is also a fantastic city; bursting with things to do and see.

This year’s festival was a big success, despite some technical problems. For the first time the festival ran for 5 days as opposed to 3. Lots of the bands who played mentioned the demonstrations which are taking part all around Spain as part of the 15M movement.

Later on in the summer music fans will head to Spain once again for Beniccasim festival which takes place upon one of Spain´s beaches in Valencia.

To find out what’s going on in Spain during your stay why not take a look at our event calendar?
