Nadal defeated in Madrid

by Lindsay Cook

Nadal was defeated by the Serbian player Novak Djokovic yesterday, Sunday 8thMay. Sadly for Nadal this defeat took place on his home territory in the final of the Madrid Open.

Djokovic won two sets, the first 7-5 and the second 6-4, which won him the championship. The Serbian played very well in the match. 88% of his shots landed behind the serve boxes and Nadal had to stand a whole 2 meters behind the base line to face his competition due to the power of Djokovic´s shots!

The first set was initially being won 4-0 by Djokovic so in many respects Nadal did well to be able to closen the score. He managed to even the score to 5-5. However Djokovic won the next two games thus winning him the first set.

No doubt this defeat will come as a disappointment to the Spanish tennis player. He is popular both in Spain and internationally. He is the face of both Bacardi´s responsible drinking campaign and of Armani´s Spring- Summer collection.

Although Nadal was defeated he will not to let it lower his self esteem. He commented to the Spanish press that he is determined to beat Djokovic this season and will continue training and maintain a positive attitude the next time they meet.

Fighting talk from Nadal!
