Bargains in Spain!

by Lindsay Cook

According to research done by the Post Office Travel Money organisation Spain is one of the cheapest places to go on holiday this summer!

They worked out how much 10 common holiday items would cost in various places throughout Europe and Spain's totalled up to be amongst the cheapest! For example in Britain the 10 items came to £77.01 whilst in Spain they cost only £42.15.

One of the great things about Spain is that it comparatively cheap. For example eating out in Spain is far cheaper than it is in the UK. The study done by the post office found that a three course meal with house wine would cost around £45.30 in Britain compared with £23.58 in Spain.

The Spaniards also offer their own take on eating out in the form of tapas! This way of eating is not only great fun as you sample different foods in different places but is also a very cheap way of eating. Here in Salamanca there are lots of bars where you get free tapas with your drink! What’s more is that drinks are also much cheaper in Spain than in other places in Europe.

The Spanish government has also ensured that visiting tourist sights is not too expensive. Many museums offer free entry at certain times of the week. For example it is free to go to the Reina Sofia museum in Madrid on a Sunday or during the weekday evenings.

In reality there are many reasons to visit Spain; to see the sights, enjoy nature, get to know the culture and the people, to sample delicious food or even to learn Spanish and the fact that Spain is a relatively cheap destination means there is nothing to stop you from enjoying yourself once you're here!
