Teaching Spanish is my passion

by Salomé Torres

Back when I was a very small child my father used to tell me that inviting a guest into your house is a great honour but when this guest then spends his time and money learning about our language and culture, it is even a bigger honour! I am very proud that through my work I can create a mutual understanding between the different cultures that exist in the world. It is great to see students from different countries getting to experience new cultural differences and learning how to get the best out of those diversities.

This is why my work is also my passion, because of this I try to constantly educate myself. I graduated in classical philology and philology and at the moment I am working on my dissertation. I have also published various works on congresses, but what counts most for my job is my curiosity - I love to know more about people and the way they learn. A key element in my job is the prevailing enthusiasm that I try, sometimes unsuccessfully, to keep inside me.

When I finished my studies, I started working with don Quijote in Granada. After 10 years I went to Tenerife to open a new don Quijote language school that was 6 years ago. don Quijote in Tenerife is a small, family-style school. The classrooms are located around a typical courtyard where after classes the Spanish street language begins. What makes us very special in comparison to other schools is that, no matter where you come from or what age you are, we take it as our personal responsibility to teach you how to feel comfortable with the Spanish language. My teachers and I like very ambitious students who know what they want and who constantly search for ways to expand their knowledge. As Head of Studies of this school I am especially proud of my teachers. Come and challenge us and we promise to give you some of our enthusiasm!
