Learning about Spanish Wines

by Paqui

Spanish wines are famous worldwide, the most popular are probably the red wines such as Rioja or Ribera del Duero, Jerez (sherry) or cava (also known as the Spanish champagne).

You can discover these and other excellent Spanish wines with a wine tasting course given to students of Spanish willing to learn more about Spanish culture and gastronomy. A chance for both the novice and experienced wine lovers to enjoy and learn about Spanish wines.

The course programme includes learning how to pour and taste the wines, their history, the different proccesses for wine production, economic and social influence of wines in Spain, Spanish vocabulary related to wines, and of course tasting the wines. This course lasts two weeks and takes place in Salamanca, Spain in March, May, June and September 2006.

My favourite wines are Rioja, especially white semi-sweet, although Ribera del Duero wines are becomming more and more appreciated among wine specialists. In recent years in Spain new bars specialised in wines and "delicatessen" tapas (such as cured ham, smoked fishes, patés, etc.) are proliferating, renewing the culture of wine tasting among Spaniards and tourists. In this website you will find more information about wines and gastronomy (in Spanish)
